A question that is normally asked after someone has bought a handmade rug. This is usually because the materials that are typically used in handmade rugs are wool or cotton which make for fairly frictionless materials when laid upon tiles or wood.
The problem is easily solved with one of the many antislip underlays that are available online today.
Depending on the size of the rug and the material you may opt for various types of underlay. We have found that there are a number of organic underlays on the market at the moment which work as well as their plastic counterparts. This one from Urbanara is particularly good.
How to style small rugs
The space that you have envisioned your rug to fit will largely dictate how you style your small rug. For small bedroom rugs try laying the rug towards the side of the bed. This is perfect if you have cold floors so the first thing your feet feel in the morning is the warmth of the rug.
If you are styling your rug in your living area, try to lay it in front of a feature like a fireplace. This will frame the feature nicely and allows for some space to walk around the rug.
Another way to style a small rug would be to lay it at an angle to the rest of the room. This will create the illusion that the rug is larger than it actually is. This works really well when you have more than one rug and you lay them at an angle to each other.
